Family's Holocaust experience inspires professor's book

Coming from a family of Holocaust survivors, Michael Polgar, associate professor of sociology at Penn State Hazleton, was inspired by family histories to teach the Holocaust from a “pedagogy of hope” — focusing on human strength and endurance. With that focus in mind, he has published his first book, “Holocaust and Human Rights Education: Good Choices and Sociological Perspectives.”

#GivingTuesday — held the Tuesday after Thanksgiving — is Nov. 27 this year and Penn State Hazleton supporters are invited to make a gift in honor of the day that celebrates the power of giving back. Penn State will begin the campaign at 6:55 p.m. EST (18:55 in military time, representing the year of Penn State's founding) on Nov. 26 until midnight on Nov. 27.
