HAZLETON, Pa. – Penn State Hazleton has appointed Alyssa Schuetrum as student aid coordinator, Chancellor Gary M. Lawler announced.
Schuetrum will oversee the campus’ process of awarding student aid, including grants, loans, scholarships and awards. She will work with current and prospective students and their parents or guardians throughout the awards process, assisting them with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and counseling them on the various types of student aid and options for financing their bill.
A key member of the campus’ enrollment efforts, she will work closely with admissions counselors to recruit prospective students. Schuetrum will also manage the Veterans Administration education benefits programs and serve as the campus’ School Certifying Official for veterans’ education and housing benefits.
“Paying for college is such an important factor for students and their families to consider,” Schuetrum said. “I’m excited to work with them to help meet their needs and ease the financial burden of completing a college education.”
Schuetrum previously spent five years as financial assistance specialist for Empire Education Group in Pottsville. In that role, she coordinated financial aid efforts for more than 80 Empire Beauty School campuses throughout the U.S.
“Alyssa brings a vast knowledge of financial aid that will be a valuable asset in helping students identify the many resources and opportunities to fund their Penn State Hazleton education,” Lawler said. “We are pleased to welcome her to the campus community.”
A Shenandoah native, Schuetrum currently lives in Pottsville with her fiancé, Chris.
