Alpha Sigma Lambda

Alpha Sigma Lambda is a national honor society that partners with colleges and universities to celebrate the scholarship and leadership of adult students in higher education.

Penn State Hazleton's chapter, Phi Sigma, holds an annual induction ceremony. The Society not only brings together outstanding students and faculty, but also offers each individual an exposure to interests other than his or her own. This organization provides our students with a forum for the exchange of ideas or activities and programs for adult students and enhances the image of adult education on the campus. According to the national Alpha Sigma Lambda's website: 

Alpha Sigma Lambda's aim is to recognize the special achievements of adults who accomplish academic excellence while facing competing interests of home and work.  Alpha Sigma Lambda is dedicated to the achievement of scholarship and recognizes high scholastic achievement in an adult student's career. By so doing, this Society encourages many students to continue toward and to earn associate and baccalaureate degrees.

Financial Aid

It is most important that you fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) report as soon as you apply to Penn State University and keep the record updated for the duration of your education. It is important to ensure your FAFSA is complete and accurate. Consider especially new names, new addresses, new dependents and another year's tax information. This can be done online at the FAFSA website. Any new and traditional scholarship information is distributed to adult learners on the Penn State Hazleton campus via emails from the adult services coordinator.

Additional suggestions for financial aid opportunities:

  • Check your local newspapers on a regular basis.
  • Carefully check each issue of your professional magazines and newsletters.
  • Make sure you read the emails sent to you.
  • Ask your employer(s) or human resource office about a company plan. Many in this area offer reimbursement upon successful completion of courses.
