Regional STEM Research Fair 2020 - CANCELLED
Judging Rubric and Description
High school students studying science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) are invited to participate in Penn State Hazleton’s sixth annual STEM Research Fair.
The event will be held on campus and is open to all students in ninth through 12th grades throughout the region. Setup begins at 7:30 a.m. with a welcome, project presentations and judging beginning at 8:00 a.m. A buffet lunch will be served for student participants, their advisers and family members in attendance.
Cash awards will be presented for the top projects with $1,000 for first place, $500 for second place, and $250 for third place.
Students can choose from either a research or design track. Projects in the research category are expected to clearly formulate a research question, gather data using experiments or scientific literature in order to attempt to answer to that question, and communicate the results and significance of their work in the context of that research question. Design track projects consist of identifying a problem and developing a practical solution to that problem. These projects must include technical calculations supporting the creation of the design and/or testing and analysis of the solution’s performance relative to the design problem identified.
All projects will be presented to the judges and the audience, using one of three presentation styles: poster, oral presentation, or show and tell.
In case of inclement weather, the research fair will be held on the same schedule.
