Penn State Hazleton has announced the schedule for Community Day, an opportunity for the Greater Hazleton community to visit the campus, from 1-4 p.m. Oct. 16.
Penn State Hazleton dedicated a new student space for supporting diversity and inclusion at the campus. The LOFT (Lions of Fusion Territory) has been designed as an informal area in a comfortable, lounge-like setting where students can spend time in an inclusive environment.
Students living in Sproul Hall at University Park campus and Oak Hall at Penn State Altoona no longer wait to hear the spin cycle complete or dryer buzz. WashAlert sends email or text notifications to students when their load of laundry has finished washing or drying. The online tool reduces the number of times spent visiting the laundry facility to check for available machines or to see if a load is complete.
On Oct. 6 the Penn State Hazleton community will come together to help kick off an ongoing University-wide initiative that brings students, faculty and staff together to show their commitment to cultivating a diverse and inclusive environment — respectful of everyone regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, age, sexual orientation, abilities, background, veteran’s status, political beliefs, and all the ways we differ.
The University is hosting a Town Hall from 3-5 p.m. Sept. 28 in the Pavilion Theatre at University Park. The meeting will be livestreamed for faculty and staff members at all Penn State campuses to view.
Penn State Hazleton’s annual diversity presentation will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 3 in 115 Evelyn Graham Academic Building. The event is free and open to campus students, faculty and staff, as well as the public. Jamie Longazel, an area native and assistant professor of sociology at the University of Dayton, is the featured speaker and will address the topic of racial and ethnic divides in Greater Hazleton.
Penn State’s annual celebration of Constitution Day will take place on Friday, Sept. 16 at University Park, with events happening throughout the month of September across Penn State campuses.
Penn State Hazleton students are reminded of the importance of completing their required vaccinations and submitting the records to University Health Services.
Penn State Hazleton is offering Lions and Lanterns Tours from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 5. Spend an autumn evening learning more about the campus, its 10 four-year degree programs, and the more than 160 majors that can be started at Penn State Hazleton and finished at another campus. Tours will be led by Penn State Hazleton Lion Ambassadors.
The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded $1.2M in funding to three Penn State chemical engineering researchers for a proposal which aims to identify the key polymeric properties of conjugated polymers used to develop flexible electronics.
