Decades after learning from him as a young student at Penn State Hazleton in the 1970s, John M. Nonnemacher continues to draw motivation and inspiration from late finance and accounting professor Nick Skimbo.

Karen Beruck has been hired as career services coordinator at Penn State Hazleton. In the role, Beruck will provide career counseling to undergraduate students and alumni on topics including career exploration and planning, resume and cover letter writing, interviewing skills, internship and job search preparation, and selecting and applying to graduate school programs.
Penn State’s Center for Socially Responsible Artificial Intelligence announced the winners of its first-ever “Bias-a-thon.” The competition, held Nov. 13–16, asked Penn Staters to identify prompts that led popular generative AI tools to produce biased or stereotype-reinforcing outputs.
Charlee Murdock, a veteran, Hazleton area community member, and single mother of three, launched Project Headway LLC, offering low-cost haircuts to people in need. Hazleton LaunchBox supported by Pasco L. Schiavo, Esq. has played a large role in the growth of Murdock's startup.
