HAZLETON, Pa. — Penn State Hazleton’s Office of Admissions will host the annual Penn State Day Open House for prospective students and their families from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, starting in the Evelyn Graham Academic Building. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.
During the open house, attendees will learn about admissions, academic programs, campus life and housing options. The financial aid office will provide information on need-based and merit-based scholarships, many specifically designated for students from the Hazleton area. Special sessions on exploring majors and athletics, as well as an interactive student panel, will be offered for parents and students attending the event.
Current students who serve as Lion Ambassadors will provide information on being a Penn State student and detail the wide range of activities, clubs and organizations, and athletic programs offered on campus. They also will offer guided campus tours.
Students also will have the opportunity to meet informally with faculty and staff and attend special interest sessions. Information will be presented about the 275-plus majors offered at Penn State, including the 10 bachelor’s and five associate degrees that can be completed at Penn State Hazleton. For more than 80 years, Penn State Hazleton has been an excellent starting point for students to begin a degree and stay for two years before transitioning to University Park or another campus to complete the degree — this is called the 2 + 2 program. Among the special opportunities offered at Penn State Hazleton are honors programs, undergraduate research, internships and study abroad.
Students applying for the fall 2019 semester will have their application fee waived with the campus visit.
Prospective students and their families also are invited to a free buffet lunch with current students at the end of the event.
