HAZLETON, Pa. — The Hazleton Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association will hold its annual business meeting dinner on Tuesday, July 11, featuring special guest Matthew McGloin. The event is open to the public.

McGloin was the starting quarterback for the Nittany Lion football team from 2010 to 2012. A Scranton native, he is a 2012 Penn State alumnus with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and telecommunications.

Joining the Nittany Lions as a walk-on, McGloin became a three-year starting quarterback for the team. The record-setting signal-caller broke nine school passing records and tied another during his impressive senior campaign that, in December 2012, earned him the Burlsworth Trophy presented to the nation’s outstanding college football player who began his career as a walk-on. In his final season at Penn State, McGloin went 270 of 446 passing (60.5 percent) for 3,266 yards, with 24 touchdown passes and only five interceptions. He also was second on the team with five touchdown runs. An honorable mention All-Big Ten choice, McGloin was selected Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Nov. 19, 2012, after throwing for 395 yards, just four yards shy of the school record, and a career-high-tying four touchdowns in Penn State's 45-22 win over Indiana. In 2013, he signed with the National Football League’s Oakland Raiders and signed a contract in April of this year to play with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The dinner will be held at Sand Springs Country Club in Drums from 6 to 8 p.m. A meet and greet with alumni and friends of Penn State Hazleton will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. with dinner and remarks by McGloin and campus and chapter leaders beginning at 7 p.m.

The buffet-style meal will consist of a garden salad, chicken francaise, eggplant parmigiana, penne pasta with vodka sauce, roasted red potatoes, vegetable medley, rolls and assorted desserts.

Prizes and auction items will be available, including Penn State clothing and memorabilia and a football autographed by Coach James Franklin.

Reservations are required. The cost is $30 for members of the chapter and $35 for non-members. Reservations and payment should be made by Wednesday, July 5. Checks should be made payable to Greater Hazleton Chapter of the PSAA and sent to Penn State Hazleton – Annual Dinner, c/o Rocco Formica, P.O. Box 2624, Hazleton, PA 18201.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Greater Hazleton Chapter Academic Award at Penn State Hazleton, which supports Hazleton area students.
