I have been teaching students for over thirty years, starting in a small town in Illinois and traveling to several different locations following career goals of both my husband and myself. My husband and I were married in 1990 and we have two beautiful smart grown children. I have a passion for what I do as well as educating the students. I truly look forward to each semester and what challenges life presents.

I am interested in looking into how college students perceive older individuals with disabilities.

"Zoomed Out": The Exhaustion of Teaching Online
13th Annual Conference on Higher Education Pedagogy™
Virtual

Collaborator: Lorie Kramer

During this historic pandemic, educators were forced to continue teaching using online platforms, such as Zoom. This did not come without challenges and months later, the term ‘Zoom fatigue’ was coined to describe the experience of feeling drained, exhausted, stressed, and/or overwhelmed after attending a series of videoconferences. Fatigue results from how we process information during a video conference (Fosslien & West Duffy, 2020). Crisman (2020) describes the impact of this fatigue on healthcare workers and children/youth mental health professionals. According to Dudley (in Callahan, 2020), “We used to take breaks from people by spending time on our gadgets. Now, we take breaks from our gadgets by seeking out real, live human connection.” Given this shift and pressure to continue teaching via videoconferencing, it would benefit educators to have an open discussion of how Zoom fatigue has impacted them personally and professionally as well as what they are doing to cope with this new style of teaching.

Thus, all 13 campuses share the common core for the degree program as well as Kinesiology activity and wellness courses across the state. It is key that the faculty are kept up to date with the course offerings of such a large institution. The pandemic provided great insight into how the Kinesiology faculty across a large university system could make stronger collaboration during challenging time. Analyzing Movement - Seeing Beyond what the Naked Eye Can See
Unlocking Our Potential
Penn Stater Conference Center State College

Dartfish TLT Symposium Proposal Session Title: Analyzing Movement – Seeing Beyond what the Naked Eye Can See Session Abstract (50 words or less; this description will be placed on the Symposium website) The naked eye has its limits to what it can see, track and evaluate. Dartfish goes beyond the human eye using new technology to investigate movement from a different angle of view. Join us in exploring how we analyze movement both in the classroom and research. Full Session Description (250 words or less. Theme of the symposium is “Unlocking our Potential and the Culture of Teaching and Learning. They want sessions that illustrate how faculty and students are embracing new ideas and approaches to create innovation in teaching and learning. We need to include something that describes how this session relates to this theme.) Physical activities can be a lot of fun, but frustrating as well. Growing up, we have been told by our teachers, coaches, and parents how to improve our skills. Nevertheless, conflicting information can be transferred through this process and we cannot go back and review, compare and analyze movement. Using Dartfish technology, we are given the opportunity to capture, review, fast-forward and rewind, pause, and analyze any movement. We now incorporate mechanics into the movement, in order to improve or even reduce the chances for injury. Dartfish can be used in various academic settings for both knowledge base and research based environments. Currently, Dartfish is being used in the Kinesiology classes of Intermediate Swimming and Indoor Team Sport at PSU Hazleton. In the Intermediate Swimming classes, the students choose a swimming stroke of their preference, are videotaped both above and below the water, and then take a closer look at the hydrodynamics and mechanics involved for success in the water. By using Dartfish, the students visually see their own strengths and weaknesses in the water for unlimited learning. We observe the strokes, pause at single frames and identify errors that may not be seen by the human eye. Instant feedback can then be given to correct the skill on the spot. In the ever evolving world of research, student researchers are able to unlock the mysteries of movement simply by using the Dartfish software. This progressive technology allows for the student researcher to instantly examine, learn, explore and manipulate movement like never before. They analyze and learn the finer details of the movement concepts using both science and technology.
