Rotation Curves of Galaxies at High Redshifts
Miami 2023: A topical conference on elementary particles, astrophysics, and cosmology
Ft. Lauderdale

Rotation curves of galaxies provide the most reliable methods for extracting
information about dark matter halos from observations. Dark matter simulations
provide predictions about the evolution of dark matter halos over time. We will
discuss rotation curve analysis of a large sample (~100) of high-redshift galaxies.
We will also discuss how these results compare with the Magneticum simulations
using simulated galaxies at different redshifts.

Acceleration Scales in Galaxies and Galaxy Clusters in the Lambda-CDM Paradigm
Miami 2022: A topical conference on elementary particles, astrophysics, and cosmology
Ft. Lauderdale, FL, USA

The acceleration scale $\sim 10^{-10} \textrm{m/s}^2$ observed in spiral galaxies provides a clue about galaxy formation. Whether such a scale exists in galaxy clusters has yet to be firmly established. However, observations hint at an acceleration scale in galaxy clusters similar to that of galaxies. In this talk, we discuss these observations and the origin of the observed acceleration scales in the context of the standard cosmological model.

Structure Formation in the Universe: Analogy with Turbulence
Miami 2021: A topical conference on elementary particles, astrophysics, and cosmology
Ft. Lauderdale, FL, USA

The baryonic Tully-Fisher and baryonic Faber-Jackson relations imply an acceleration scale in structures of very different size, morphology, and evolutionary history. Observationally, the acceleration scale is remarkably similar on scales of globular clusters to clusters of galaxies. In this talk, we discuss the acceleration scales in galaxy clusters, which has not yet been well-established, and implications for structure formation, including an analogy with Kolmogorov scaling in turbulence to provide insights into structure formation.

A Fundamental Acceleration Scale in Galaxy Clusters
Miami 2020: A topical conference on elementary particles, astrophysics, and cosmology
Virtual

An acceleration scale $\sim10^{-10}\mathrm{m/s^2}$ is implicit in the baryonic Faber-Jackson (BFJ) and baryonic Tully-Fisher (BTF) relations, independently of theoretical preference or bias. We show that the existence of this scale in the BFJ relation is most apparent when data from pressure supported systems of vastly different scales including globular clusters, elliptical galaxies, and galaxy clusters are analyzed together. This suggests the relevance of the acceleration scale $10^{-10}\mathrm{m/s^2}$ to structure formation processes at many different length scales and could be pointing to a heretofore unknown property of dark matter.

An acceleration scale common to most galaxies was discovered in the early nineteen-eighties. Why this scale should exist is an open question. Modified Dark Matter is a model that accounts for the acceleration scale in galaxies and galaxy clusters.

Modified Dark Matter: Relating Dark Energy, Dark Matter, and Baryonic Matter
Colloquium at Virginia Commonwealth University
VCU, Richmond, VA

Modified dark matter (MDM) is a phenomenological model of dark matter, inspired by gravitational thermodynamics. For an accelerating Universe with positive cosmological constant ($\Lambda$), such phenomenological considerations lead to the emergence of a critical acceleration parameter related to $\Lambda$. Such a critical acceleration is an effective phenomenological manifestation of MDM, and is found in tight correlations between dark matter and baryonic matter in galaxy rotation curves, the so-called Mass Discrepancy Acceleration Relation (MDAR). The resulting MDM mass profiles are consistent with observational data at both the galactic and cluster scales.

Modied dark matter (MDM) is a phenomenological model of dark matter, inspired by gravitational thermodynamics. For an accelerating Universe with positive cosmo- logical constant ($\Lambda$), such phenomenological considerations lead to the emergence of a critical acceleration parameter related to $\Lambda$. Such a critical acceleration is an effective phenomenological manifestation of MDM, and it is found in correlations between dark matter and baryonic matter in galaxy rotation curves. The resulting MDM mass proles, which are sensitive to $\Lambda$, are consistent with observational data at both the galactic and cluster scales. In particular, the same critical acceleration appears both in the galactic and cluster data ts based on MDM. Today, we will discuss the ongoing investigation of MDM with a focus on galaxy clusters.
