These images were created by the generative AI platform Midjourney when prompted to show a group of computer scientists winning an award at a conference. The results, which show almost exclusively younger white men, are an example of the demographic biases built into many generative AI tools.
Penn State’s Center for Socially Responsible Artificial Intelligence announced the winners of its first-ever “Bias-a-thon.” The competition, held Nov. 13–16, asked Penn Staters to identify prompts that led popular generative AI tools to produce biased or stereotype-reinforcing outputs.
It has come to our attention that the 2024-25 FAFSA form has listed a separate School Code for each Penn State campus location. As a school, we use one code for all campuses. We have submitted an update to Federal Student Aid, but are unsure of how long it will take for the FAFSA to be updated.

Charlee Murdock, a veteran, Hazleton area community member, and single mother of three, launched Project Headway LLC, offering low-cost haircuts to people in need. Hazleton LaunchBox supported by Pasco L. Schiavo, Esq. has played a large role in the growth of Murdock's startup.
