Psychology Program Overview
The Psychology program at Penn State Hazleton is intended for students who want to learn about human behavior, scientific research methods and how psychology may be used to solve real-world problems. Students take course work in various areas of psychology, including:
- Clinical psychology
- Developmental psychology
- Social psychology
During their fourth year, students will choose a capstone course from one of several options: an internship in a professional setting, a senior seminar on an integrative topic, or a research or senior thesis project.

Psychology Degree Options
Students can earn either a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.
Bachelor of Arts in Psychology
The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology provides students with a strong foundation in psychological principles while offering the breadth of a liberal arts education, including the opportunity to develop proficiency in a foreign language.
Designed for those who are interested in majoring in psychology but still exploring their future career direction, the program prepares graduates for roles in clinical environments, social service agencies, research institutions, and business settings.
Its flexible, broadly based curriculum also supports students interested in continuing their education through graduate or professional programs in psychology, human services, or business.

Bachelor of Science in Psychology
- Science option: designed for students planning to go into the business world or to continue in psychology in the areas of personnel work or industrial/organizational psychology.
- Business option: designed for students with interests in the relation of biology and chemistry to behavior, or who plan to go into a field where this knowledge would be helpful, such as drug counseling or psychiatry.
