Medical Laboratory Technology Program Outcomes

REQUEST INFORMATION ABOUT THE MLT DEGREE

NAACLS Accreditation

Laboratory professionals work as part of a medical team to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease or injury, and to promote the health and well-being of patients. The program strives to prepare graduates for careers in medical laboratories. At the completion of the program, graduates of the MLT program should be able to:

  • Perform venipuncture and other required specimen collection with maximum efficiency and minimum discomfort to the patient.
  • Perform routine tests on body fluids and cells efficiently from beginning to end, recognize their clinical significance, and evaluate the reliability of the results by interpreting quality control results.
  • Report results accurately using verbal and written means, recognizing the necessity to draw attention to abnormal values.
  • Problem-solve and recognize factors directly related to lab tests and their results.
  • Participate in troubleshooting and preventive maintenance of instruments.
  • Accept accountability for one's work and actions within the ethical and legal guidelines pertaining to medical laboratory science.
  • Demonstrate an appropriate professional attitude and respect toward patients, staff, and the career itself.

It is also anticipated that the program will enable the graduate to:

  • Meet the eligibility requirements necessary to take the available certification exams.
  • Build a foundation upon which the graduate may continue his education and professional development.

The following information may be used to ascertain the ability of the program to meet the Program Outcomes listed above.
