The program strives to prepare graduates for careers in medical laboratories. At the completion of the program, graduates of the MLT program should be able to:
- Perform venipuncture and other required specimen collection with maximum efficiency and minimum discomfort to the patient.
- Perform routine tests on body fluids and cells efficiently from beginning to end, recognize their clinical significance, and evaluate the reliability of the results by interpreting quality control results.
- Report results accurately using verbal and written means, recognizing the necessity to draw attention to abnormal values.
- Problem-solve and recognize factors directly related to lab tests and their results.
- Participate in troubleshooting and preventive maintenance of instruments.
- Accept accountability for one's work and actions within the ethical and legal guidelines pertaining to medical laboratory science.
