Toxic Gender Roles, Toxic Workplace, Toxic Relationships, Toxic Social Media, Toxic School Environment, Toxic Positivity, and Toxic Wellness Culture. Objectives for the presentation: Participants will learn the definitions of different types of toxicity in our society today and the negative impact they have on psychological well-being. Participants will learn ways to reduce the negative effects of these psychosocial stressors. Participants will engage in an activity that will enhance their understanding of these concepts and interventions.

Cooperative Learning: The Tale of Merging Two Classes for a Project in Designing Physical Activities for People with Disabilties

This presentation describes a cooperative learning activity which merged two classes from different disciplines to participate in a creative assignment. Students from a kinesiology course and a rehabilitation & human services course were brought together over a week’s time to research and design physical activities for people with disabilities. Students demonstrated their activities and participated in each activity, gaining insight and an understanding of the importance of physical movement and wellness for people of all abilities. The presentation will detail the project’s development, planning, logistics, learning curve, and will show a student- created video of the students completing the project.

Meeting the Vocational Rehabilitaiton and Employment Needs of Individuals with Severe Mental Illness

Presentation provided participants with an overview of employment barriers for people with severe mental illness, ideas for how to work and support these consumers, and how to expand these ideas beyond those with severe mental illness to other disabilities as well. A case study was used to wrap up and show ideas put into practice.

As part of Women's History Month, I was Invited to be part of a panel discussion on campus to share my views on the importance of women in the helping professions. The panel of four women took turns answering questions and having a discussion related to their personal views on inspiring women and their accomplishments, views on women and covid, and advice for practicing self-care. The panel also shared what led them into the helping professions.

Karen Stylianides and I were invited to present at a seminar for the UAEU. We met on 1/21/21 for planning purposes. Meeting again on 2/18/21 and finalizing the presentation on 2/22/21. The presentation was for the physical education and special education departments and for both faculty and students. The presentation was well-received and a true pleasure to present to an international audience.

Lorie Kramer & Karen Stylianides will present on the labs they collaborated and created in Fall 2015 called “Penn State in Motion.” Students in the RHS 100 course participate in two labs each semester. The class invites residents from local rehabilitation and skilled nursing homes to our campus gymnasium for light physical activities and games. The labs provide a real world opportunity for students to interact and connect through physical activity with people who have may have disabilities.
The presentation will include:
•the learning objectives for the course and labs
•the organization and planning of the labs
•how a Teaching Project Grant from the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence helped to purchase additional
equipment and supplies
•reflective comments from the students and invited participants
•a short video of the labs
•future ideas and hopes to expand the labs
