University Police at Penn State Hazleton provide all law enforcement and security services to the Hazleton campus. University Police officers have the same authority as municipal police officers in the Commonwealth. Parking enforcement and traffic control are also responsibilities of the University Police. Officers are on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week year round.
The University Police Department employs several full-time police officers. All members of the police department are Act 120 certified and most have considerable additional training.
Penn State Hazleton University Police participate in the Luzerne County Emergency Services 911 system. If a person dials 911 on campus, the 911 operator will contact a member of this department or dispatch the appropriate emergency response team to needed location.
Penn State Hazleton University Police use the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Management Information System. The computerized system allows for the storage and retrieval of reported information. A daily log of Police Services Activity is maintained in the public area of the department office. This information is readily available to anyone interested.
