Psychology

Penn State Hazleton's close-knit environment has allowed my instructors to pay close attention to the academic progress of both myself and my peers. The individualized attention and sense of community has been incredibly beneficial for me, and there has never been a point where I had a question that somebody on campus couldn't answer.

Brandon Crockford, 2024 Psychology program graduate

Psychology Program Overview

At Penn State Hazleton, students can earn either a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Overall, the program is intended for students who want to learn about human behavior, scientific research methods and how psychology may be used to solve real-world problems. Students take course work in various areas of psychology, including:

  • Clinical psychology
  • Developmental psychology
  • Social psychology

During their fourth year, students will choose a capstone course from one of several options: an internship in a professional setting, a senior seminar on an integrative topic, or a research or senior thesis project.

Bachelor of Arts in Psychology

The Bachelor of Arts degree program in Psychology is designed for students with specific interests in foreign languages or who desire exposure to a broader curriculum that includes additional general education courses. Because this program is more broadly based, it is perfect for students who are interested in majoring in psychology but may be unsure of their specific future psychology career direction.

Bachelor of Science in Psychology

In addition to providing students with the basics of psychology, the Bachelor of Science degree program in Psychology program offers two options to prepare students for their specific career goals.

  • Science option: designed for students planning to go into the business world or to continue in psychology in the areas of personnel work or industrial/organizational psychology.
  • Business option: designed for students with interests in the relation of biology and chemistry to behavior, or who plan to go into a field where this knowledge would be helpful, such as drug counseling or psychiatry.
