Penn State Hazleton summer youth programs offer students a fun-filled approach to academic and athletic camps during the summer months.

We offer summer camps for elementary, middle and high school students. Please note the dates, times and locations for the various camps.

 

Summer 2017 Youth Camps

June 19 to June 23

Critter Camp
Each Critter Camp day will include a high-energy, minimally structured hunt to find and learn about as many different plants and animals as possible. You can share your discoveries and use our lab facilities to examine your specimens under the microscope and use them in simple experiments and creative projects. You’ll also be taken on a field trip to a local stream on one of the five days. This camp will spark your enthusiasm for the natural world!

June 26 to June 30

Boys' Basketball
Develop and improve your basketball skills. Our staff, dedicated to the highest ideals of sports conduct and play, base their philosophy on the premise that excellence in basketball, as in life, requires hard work and perseverance.

Youth Developmental Soccer
Location: Community Park
The Youth Soccer Development Camp will offer five days of soccer skill training. Our NSCAA-certified coaching staff will develop and implement all training sessions. Work with current Penn State Hazleton men’s and women’s soccer coaches and players to improve fundamental skills.

July 7 only

Paint-a-Canvas Message Board
Chalkboards and chalk decorations are all the rage! In this camp, you will choose the designs for your own personal message board and complete them using simple painted stenciling and brushstroke techniques. Campers will decorate a 12" X 12" canvas that has been prepped with black chalkboard paint. The project will be finished with a stick of cork-wrapped chalk and jute hanger. All materials will be supplied.

Knit One, Purl Two! Dishcloth or Barbie blanket
Join us for a mini-camp and learn the basics of knitting including casting on stitches, basic knit and purl stitches, how to read a knitting pattern, and keep track of your stitches and rows, and casting off and finishing. Campers will work to complete an approximately 7” x 7” knitted all-cotton square, which can be used as a dish cloth, blanket for Barbie, etc. All materials supplied.

July 10 and July 11

Boys Soccer ID Camp  
(Location: Community Park)

Our first boys’ ID camp will provide high school-aged soccer players with an opportunity to get college-level training from our NSCAA-certified coaching staff and players from the Penn State Hazleton Men’s Soccer team. Players will see what it’s like to be a Penn State Nittany Lion! Our ID Camp will offer evaluations that will be sent out to other local colleges, as well as a recruiting Q&A with members of the Nittany Lion soccer teams and staff. (Parents are welcomed to attend this Q&A on day two of the camp during the last hour.)

Digital Media and Photoshop
Are you interested in learning how to make one-of-a-kind creations using digital media? Learn how to become a digital artist when you join us for this hands-on interactive camp where campers will use Photoshop to create and enhance images using computers, cameras and programs. Campers will produce a final project to add to their portfolio.

Girls' Basketball
Welcome to Penn State Girls’ Basketball School, a great opportunity for growth and success in your game! Our staff is composed of enthusiastic, caring, hard-working Penn State coaches, who will work with the campers on basketball fundamentals and team concepts of the game. Improve your basketball skills while having fun at the same time. In addition to teaching basic skills, the staff will provide opportunities for daily competitions.

July 11 and July 12

Babysitter’s Training with Pediatric First Aid/CPR Training
Discover the rewarding world of childcare and learn what to do when you are in charge! In this camp, you will learn about child safety, how to “play it safe,” and the basics of caring for children – all while developing your leadership skills. Find out how to prevent and recognize emergencies, as well as how to provide basic First Aid and CPR for infants and children until an emergency medical team arrives.

Campers must attend all sessions, and upon successful completion of the program, will receive the following certificates and resources:

  • American Red Cross Infant/Child CPR card
  • American Red Cross First Aid Skills card
  • American Red Cross Babysitter Training certificate
  • American Red Cross Babysitter’s handbook
  • American Red Cross CPR Training kit
  • American Red Cross First Aid Training packet

Drawing, Painting, Stamps and more!
Water colors, stamps and prints, splatter and collage! When it comes to art, hop right in and learn about the various techniques used to create art. Additionally, you will hear about the history behind the techniques and the artists who perfected them.
