Lifeguard Certification

Penn State Hazleton's lifeguard certification course provides entry-level lifeguards with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies. Certified lifeguards are provided with an opportunity to update their credentials through the program.

Lifeguard Clinic - 2018 Schedule

Swim test: Monday, April 9; 5 - 6 p.m.

Clinic Dates/Times: Thursday, April 19 and Friday, April 20; 5 - 9 p.m.
Saturday, April 21; 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Fee: $200 for Penn State students; $275 for nonstudents
The fee is due before the swim test. If a participant is unable to successfully complete the pretest, a refund less a $25 administrative fee will be issued.

Prerequisites: To enroll, participants must be at least 15 years old before the last scheduled class session and successfully complete the pretest.

Description: This is a blended learning class with online, classroom, and pool components.

Lifeguard Recertification

Dates/Times: Friday, April 21; 5 - 9 p.m.
Saturday, April 22; 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Fee: $125 for Penn State students; $150 for nonstudents.

Prerequisites: Participants must provide proof of current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certification.

Note: High school students under the age of 18 must have a parent/guardian present throughout the course.


Certification: Participants successfully completing the course will receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/Professional Rescuer which is valid for two years.
