Community members are invited to put on their costumes and come celebrate Halloween at Penn State Hazleton’s Trunk-or-Treat event from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 24. The event is sponsored and organized by the Penn State Hazleton Lion Ambassadors, a student-led organization that promotes Penn State and its interests and goals among current and future students, alumni and friends.
Gina Tarud, a longtime faculty member in Penn State Hazleton’s physical therapist assistant program, has been promoted to teaching professor of physical therapy.
Two faculty members along with two students, one from Penn State World Campus and the other from Penn State Hazleton, collaborated to analyze marketing ethics across national professional organizations. The team published their findings in Journal of Leadership, Accountability, and Ethics.
Prospective students and their families are invited to visit Penn State Hazleton for its Penn State Day Open House on Saturday, Oct. 7. The visit will include a presentation about all things Penn State, activities, specialized breakout sessions, a campus tour, and opportunities to have questions about academic programs, campus life and more answered by current students, faculty and staff.
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Penn State Hazleton will host novelist, poet, professor and public speaker Javier Ávila for a one-person show at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26, in the Black Box Theater of the Slusser/Bayzick Building. The event is free and open to the public.
Mikayla Blakeslee has been hired as coordinator of residence life and student engagement at Penn State Hazleton, where she will be responsible for assisting with the planning, implementation and evaluation of the campus’ residence life program and student activities and services focused on student engagement, community service, and diversity and inclusion programming, among other duties.

Jeffrey Chiampi has been hired as associate teaching professor of computer science and computer science program coordinator at Penn State Hazleton. Chiampi spent the last 10 years as a faculty member at Penn State Wilkes-Barre.
