As of fall 2021, a new Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (IT) degree will replace the existing Bachelor of Science in Information Sciences and Technology (IST) degree, which will be phased out over the next four years. Students admitted after fall 2021 will need to pursue the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology degree.
Penn State Hazleton offers a bachelor of science degree and an associate of science degree in Information Sciences and Technology (IST). The program, available to full-time and nontraditional part-time students, integrates computer systems, information management, networking, and software technologies.
The IST curriculum blends theory with the real-world application of computer systems in all the program options. IST courses develop skills in teamwork, interpersonal relationships, critical thinking, communication, collaborative problem-solving and hands-on computer technologies.
Students (associate and bachelor level) will gain experience in the practical application of their knowledge though a required internship in industry. Career positions available to IST graduates include systems analyst, network administrator, telecommunications analyst, Web master, database analyst, and administrator. These are just a few of the ever-expanding career opportunities for which the IST program prepares its students.
The overarching theme of the IST program is to develop leaders and knowledge workers for the digital age.
